Former ONE welterweight champion Ben Askren has officially been traded to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Now UFC President Dana White has come forward to offer his thoughts on which UFC competitor will welcome Askren inside the octagon to test the former title holder’s undefeated record.
Ben Askren was recently traded to the UFC in exchange for former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson joining ONE Championship. Speaking to TMZ Sports, UFC President Dana White has revealed that Ben Askren will compete within the promotion’s welterweight division and that the former ONE champion will face one of the UFC’s top five 170 pound contenders.
“I don’t know; we’re still working on it. Obviously, he’s gonna come into the welterweight division. 170 pounds. He’s undefeated, he’s their champion. So we’re excited about it.
“He’s definitely gonna fight somebody in the top five.”
Tyron Woodley is the reigning UFC welterweight champion. Beyond that, the top five contenders of the division at this moment are Colby Covington, Darren Till, Rafael dos Anjos, Stephen Thompson and Robbie Lawler.
