Undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov put on a dominant performance over mixed martial arts megastar Conor McGregor back at UFC 229, ultimately having earned a submission victory over the Ireland native. Now UFC President Dana White has come forward to discuss the possibility of “The Eagle” taking on Georges St-Pierre.
Former two-division champion Georges St-Pierre has not competed inside the octagon since vacating his UFC middleweight title over a debilitating case of ulcerative colitis. That being said, the French-Canadian fighter has seemingly been cutting down on weight since vacating his title. GSP has even voiced an interest in fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov for his massive octagon return.
Speaking to ESPN, UFC President Dana White has now come forward to declare that St-Pierre will have to fight a top contender first if he wants to challenge Khabib Nurmagomedov for his title.
“How does Georges St-Pierre jump over all the guys fighting in that division to face Khabib? Just because all of a sudden he wants to come out and fight this guy — he doesn’t get to do that. If Georges St-Pierre is serious, listen, I’ll give you a fight with one of these guys in the top five. If you win, you’ll be in position for a title shot.
“We don’t even know if Georges St-Pierre can make 155 pounds. You know what I mean?”
