Undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov earned a stunning victory over the weekend. However, it was the Dagestan native’s actions after the fight that has since drawn controversy around the event.
Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted mixed martial arts megastar Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 229 on Saturday, Oct. 6. Live on pay-per-view, directly after the bout, Nurmagomedov leaped out of the cage and attacked Conor McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis.
A brawl quickly ensued between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s fight camps. TMZ Sports has since come forward to report that an undisclosed ringside witness informed the news source that Dillon Danis allegedly yelled at Khabib Nurmagomedov that he is a “f**king Muslim rat” during the fight. The statement is believed to be the cause of the massive fracas.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has since decided to suspend Nurmagomedov and McGregor each for 10 days while an investigation into the brawl is undertaken.
