It would appear that two of mixed martial arts’ top promotions are now set to make history. ONE Championship and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) are currently negotiating a trade.
Within the sport of MMA, fighters have not been traded from promotion to promotion. The practice is, of course, standard in other sports such as the NFL or MLB.
Well, as reported by ESPN, ONE Championship is now negotiating releasing their former welterweight champion Ben Askren from his contract to allow the fighter to sign with the UFC. However, the UFC will have to release their former flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson from his contract so that he may sign with ONE Championship.
The deal has not yet been finalized, but the negotiations are reportedly within their final stages. This is certainly a historic moment for the sport of MMA.
