UFC featherweight Artem Lobov’s opponent Michael Johnson missed weight for their match up on Saturday by one pound. That being said, Lobov plans to pay his opponent back every penny of his fined purse.
UFC News
Artem Lobov was initially set to fight Zubaira Tukhugov at UFC Fight Night 138 on Oct. 27. However, Tukhugov was pulled from the event after being involved in the UFC 229 post-fight brawl.
Michael Johnson accepted a fight against Artem Lobov for the event on short notice and ultimately missed weight by a single pound. Consequently, Johnson will be fined 20 percent of his fight purse. That 20 percent will be paid to Artem Lobov.
ESPN’s Ariel Helwani has since reported that Artem Lobov plans to pay Michael Johnson his 20 percent fine back as a thank you for accepting their fight on short notice.
“I’m told @RusHammerMMA went up to Johnson afterwards and said he will make sure MJ gets the full 20% back bc he is appreciative of the fact that MJ took the fight on short notice. The rules are Lobov has to take the money but he gave Johnson his word he’ll get it back to him.”

“I asked Artem Lobov about his decision to give back Johnson’s fine. ‘I told the UFC to save me the trouble of transferring the cash and just pay him in full,’ he said. ‘I’m happy to sign any waivers.
“’I show respect where it’s due,’ he added. ‘Always.’”
