Souza and Weidman co-headlined UFC 230 on Nov. 3. Souza dropped Weidman with a flurry of blows in the final round. However, the referee did not call a stop to the contest.
Souza contested the decision with the referee during the fight, before finishing Weidman with a few arguably unnecessary blows before the referee elected to call a stop to the contest. Speaking to the UFC in a recent interview, Souza has since come forward with his thoughts on the matter.
“I was pretty upset. The truth is that I’m a big fan of Weidman’s, I follow him on social media. I admire his work and the father that he is. So I was pretty angry when because the referee didn’t stop it any sooner.”
“I’m going to wait for my turn now. I’m going to sit out and wait for the champion. Be it Robert Whittaker or Kelvin Gastelum.”
