Grappling phenom and UFC newcomer Mackenzie Dern is looking to get back inside the octagon as soon as possible.
Mackenzie Dern took the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by storm. The BJJ ace would go on to become an ADCC champion and a No. 1 ranked IBJJF black belt before trying her hand at the sport of mixed martial arts.
After putting on a undefeated five fight winning streak, Dern managed to lock in her octagon debut. For her first fight under the UFC banner, Dern faced off against Ashley Yoder at UFC 222.
The grappling phenom earned a split decision victory over her opponent, after entering a three round octagon war for fight fans watching around the world. Now it would appear that Dern is looking to take the Donald Cerrone approach to her UFC career.
Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone quickly made a reputation for himself as a UFC competitor always willing to take a fight, short notice or not. More so, “Cowboy” is consistently pushing to be one of the roster’s most active fighters.
While Dern just put on a three round battle, the fighter has already revealed that she is interested in competing on a card that is only two months away. Speaking at the UFC 222 Post-Fight Press Conference, Dern broke down her thoughts on the matter.
“I don’t want the fast track to the top of the division, I want to take time. But I want to fight soon again. I’m all about fighting, I’m sure the next person I fight will give me different challenges and that’s what I need to show who I am and what kind of fighter I want to become.”
“I’m ready to fight, I want to fight again in May, Brazil. I want to fight anywhere.”
UFC 224 goes down May 12 inside the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Now it would appear that Mackenzie Dern is targeting the exciting fight card for her next octagon performance.
