UFC middleweight contender Yoel Romero earned himself a title shot when he finished former champion Luke Rockhold in stunning fashion at UFC 221. Now the reigning title holder has come forward with some thoughts of his own concerning his upcoming war for the belt with Yoel Romero.
UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker first earned the interim title with a unanimous decision victory over Yoel Romero. Whittaker would later be upgraded to the undisputed champion after Georges St-Pierre vacated the title due to a debilitating case of colitis.
Now Whittaker and Romero are set to throw down once again. This time, the two mixed martial arts phenoms will face off at UFC 225. The event will take place June 9 inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. UFC 225 will be featured live on pay-per-view.
With the fight now fast approaching, Robert Whittaker recently sat down with the guys of Submission Radio to discuss the title fight rematch. The reigning champion hopes that Romero implements a similar strategy he used against Luke Rockhold in their fight. Whittaker wants Romero to keep things standing for an intense octagon war.
“I think it will be the exact same fight. Yoel can’t fight me any other way. The only thing that will be different is that I’ll be better.”
“I hope and I pray that he fights me like Luke Rockhold. Think about it, a stationary target in front of me, yeah alright.”
