Former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson never got a chance to defend his interim belt or fight for the undisputed title.
Instead, just 9 days our from his scheduled UFC 223 bout against Khabib Nurmagomedov, he was injured, and forced to pull out of his shot at the undisputed strap.
As history goes, Khabib would fight Al Iaquinta, on what would be 24-hours notice, in the event’s headliner. Khabib picked up a unanimous decision win over Iaquinta, gaining the UFC’s undisputed lightweight world title in the process.
At the conclusion of the bout, both Ferguson and Conor McGregor were stripped, and Tony was off to surgery to repair a knee.
Now, a recovering Tony Ferguson hits twitter showing off his latest surgical wounds, while remaining optimistic that he no longer holds a championship title.
