After UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic earned a dominant decision victory over Francis Ngannou in his record breaking third title defense, the reigning champion refused to let UFC President Dana White place the belt around his waist. Rather, Miocic gave the belt to his coach so that he could wrap the belt around him during the iconic moment.
The incident has since lead some to believe that Stipe Miocic may have some beef with the UFC president, especially following the seemingly disproportionate amount of promotion the UFC appeared to be giving Ngannou ahead of their title fight.
Speaking to ESPN’s Michelle Beadle, Miocic was asked about the incident. The champion explained that he wanted to belt to be placed around him by his coach, because his coached respects him.
Beadle then claimed that White and Miocic are both “big personalities” and that they both need to “hash it out” following the incident. Miocic responded by banging his fists together and grinding his teeth. The fighter was then asked if he was given any flack for the incident.
Miocic revealed that he did not, be that he also did not care if he was going to receive any flack for the incident.
