Boxing fans experienced another stunning night of performances over the weekend, as pugilist phenom Gennady Golovkin added another dazzling finish to his record. Now the mixed martial arts world is coming forward over social media to offer thoughts on the champion’s big performance.
Boxing fans gathered inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. on Saturday night, May 5, for a huge Cinco De Mayo event. This time around WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin stepped inside the squared circle to put a series of his belts on the line.
“GGG” was initially set to face off against Canelo Alvarez for a highly anticipated rematch in the night’s headliner. However, Alvarez has since been suspended following drug test failures.
Consequently, Golovkin was paired up on short notice to face Vanes Martirosyan, a boxer trained by none other than MMA’s Edmond Tarverdyan. Golovkin put on a stunning performance over his opponent, ultimately earning a big knockout for the win.
Check out what many within the MMA world thought of the display within the social media posts down below:

'night 'night! #GGG with the 2nd round KO. But wait, there's some controversy on when the last punch was thrown… #GGGVanes

Sure am glad we got rid of a competitive contest in Canelo vs, GGG 2 in the interests of anti-doping so we could get a brutal squash match as a replacement. That seems (not at all) ethically consistent.

GGG drops Martisoryan. That’s all, folks. It’s over. GGG by KO in the second round. Wow. #GGGVanes

GGG with a second round KO to no one's surprise. Collect that paycheck and let's see the rematch with Canelo later this year.

GGG just KO’d Vanes Martirosyan, who was cornered by Edmond Tarverdyan, in the 2nd round. The Big Drama Show is back to knocking people out (though this was a step back in competition from his last couple fights).
