Former UFC light heavyweight champion and mixed martial arts legend Chuck Liddell has come forward to reveal that he is ready to make a big return to the sport.
“The Iceman” has not competed in MMA since going on a three fight losing streak than started in 2008 and culminated in 2010. Since then, the 48-year-old UFC Hall of Famer has been finding other ways to spend his time.
Appearing on the latest edition of The MMA Hour, Liddell revealed that he was returning to the sport of mixed martial arts. The former title holder claims he is close to a deal with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions for a fight against fellow former UFC champion and longtime rival Tito Ortiz for a trilogy rematch.
The target location for the trilogy rematch is being considered for Las Vegas, Nev. or somewhere in the California area. Liddell claimed that he feels great in his training.
The former champion intends to take a few fights, before eyeing a potential match up against former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. The 48-year-old believes he matches up well against Jones and believes that “Bones” would not have fared well against “The Iceman” during Liddell’s prime.
