Two-division UFC champion Daniel Cormier made UFC history with his heavyweight title win over the weekend. Now it would appear that the champion is interested in former light heavyweight title holder Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Cormier only has a few fights on his mind before retiring, including a massive fight against former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. That being said, Cormier is not opposed to moving back down to light heavyweight and taking on Rua.
Speaking at the UFC 226 Post-Fight Press Conference, Cormier said:
“I think (Rua) might be on a longer win streak than Gustafsson if he wins his next fight, so why doesn’t he deserve it? He’s a former champion. He would be in the running, too. (Alexander) Gustafsson needs to do something very spectacular to get that title shot.”
“This guy’s a living legend, a champion and one of the greatest fighters of all time. That is one guy at 205 that I would fight.”
