UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former two-division champion Conor McGregor are seemingly on a collision course destined for the octagon. With that in mind, Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz can not deny that Dustin Poirier now deserves a shot at the Dagestan native’s belt.
Conor McGregor has not competed inside the octagon since back in 2016. That being said, “Notorious” recently landed a plea deal concerning the attack of a UFC charter bus that was reportedly targeting Khabib Nurmagomedov. Consequently, a grudge title fight between McGregor and “The Eagle” has seemingly been brewing.
Still, Dustin Poirier just earned a second round TKO victory over former lightweight champion and No. 3 ranked in the division Eddie Alvarez. Speaking at the recent UFC 227 media lunch, Ali Abdelaziz revealed that he believes Dustin Poirier deserves a title shot. However, Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor is the fight to make to Abdelaziz.
“If Conor starts playing games, we’re fighting Poirier. Poirier will get the shot. I think he deserves it before Conor. But Conor wants to come, you’ve gotta bring your check book with you. Because he doesn’t deserve it. Poirier deserves it.”
“If you want to make this fight happen, it’s about money. It’s not about who’s the champion, the rankings — none of this stuff. It’s about money. Khabib wants to kick his ass, I want to see it, but at the end of the day, if Conor fights it’s business.”
