Even though the world of professional wrestling is pre-determined and scripted, the strikes in the match can be very real and cause a lot of physical damage. World Wrestling Entertainment Superstar Finn Balor made his in-ring return on Monday’s edition of “RAW” and, after sitting on the shelf since August, sustained a flash knockout in the ring on Monday night.
While wrestlers sell strikes to make them look as real as possible, there is no way a wrestler would willingly land face-first on the canvas to the point where they would scuff up their own face like Finn did last night. When Jinder Mahal cut off Balor’s attack with a massive elbow, the shot landed flush and Balor free-fell to the canvas where his head broke his fall:
Balor just came back from injury for the first time since his Summerslam match with Seth Rollins where he sustained a shoulder injury, putting him on the shelf until last night. With World Wrestling Entertainment’s concussion protocol getting more serious after the Chris Benoit dilemma in 2006, it’s safe to bet that Balor might get shelved for at least a week or two before he makes another appearance inside the ring.
Do you think strikes like these have any place in the professional wrestling ring? There’s a fine line between making your craft look as good and as close to real as possible, and simply doing harm to your body. Share your feeling on this situation in the comment section below!
