When the UFC announced the return of GSP, MMA fans around the world rejoiced.
When they later announced his title fight against Michael Bisping, it was clear that GSP was on a mission to combat the newly cemented records of Conor McGregor.
No longer can you be in the GOAT category without holding two UFC titles, and GSP is up for the challenge.
It was revealed over the course of the pre-fight media tour though, that GSP wasn’t looking to return to action until after the summer. This directly conflicts with Bisping’s plans to fight in July.
As such, the champ stated that he will accept another opponent, unless GSP agrees to fight him in July.
GSP has now responded to “The Count’s” ultimatum in an interview with RT Sports of Canada:
“I think he’s lying. I know he wants to fight me and I want to fight him. This fight’s going to give him more money. It comes down to his decision but if he wants to do it, I’m down to do it. That’s who I’m getting ready for.
“If things change, I’m going to have to turn around and do a quick turn around but no problem, I can do it, but he’s the man, the one that has the belt. For me, he’s the highest stock right now and I always aim for the higher guy.”
“There’s no date yet because we have to go through a lot of process with USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) with the anti-doping thing, so before we’re cleared to fight we have to go through that process and some other stuff going on. Soon we should have a date.”
“I think it will be after the summer.”
