Former mixed martial arts fighter and professional wrestler Akebono recently competed in Fukuoaka, south Japan for the promotion DDT. Following a match at the event, the former mixed martial artist has reportedly been rushed to a hospital and induced into a coma.
As reported by Daily Star, the competitor fell ill at the event and has since been placed in an induced coma. He is to remain in the hospital for a minimum of ten days.
It is currently unclear if Akebono’s condition was brought on by the DDT event in Fukuoaka, south Japan or was evoked by an unrelated illness.
Akebono has enjoyed a storied career in mixed martial arts, professional wrestling and sumo through his years of professional competition.
