Rising Middleweight contender Kelvin Gastelum was originally slated to face UFC legend Anderson Silva as part of the UFC’s UFC 212 event, in Rio.
Unfortunately, Gastelum would later fail a USADA drug test for marijuana, which resulted in a suspensions and forced cancellation of the bout.
Silva still wants on the card, and the UFC wants to have him. So, the hunt for a replacement opponent has been underway for more than a week, but has yet to yield a result.
In steps UFC president Dana White, who hopes to wrap things up this week, one way or the other.
Speaking to the Brazilian media, the UFC president confirmed that the UFC is still seeking an opponent to face Anderson Silva. The UFC President stated that if the company is unable to secure one by the end of this week, they will remove Anderson Silva from the event entirely.
Luke Rockhold was among the leading candidates to face Silva, Yoel Romero also offered his services on short notice. Anderson’s camp turned down both men.
Stay tuned.
