UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is riding a title defense victory over Stephen “Wonderboy” Thomson at UFC 209. Now, a recent rumor has suggested that the champion is gearing up for his second title defense of the year.
A mixed martial arts news insider recently took to Twitter to state, “Just spoke to someone this morning that told me UFC is ‘working for Tyron Woodley vs Maia/Masvidal at #UFC214’ That’s the word.”
With UFC 214 set for July 29, the event has no officially announced bouts for its empty card. But, welterweight competitors Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal are set to face off at UFC 211 on May 13 inside the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas.
With both welterweight contenders within the top five of the division, it is not a stretch to imagine that the champion would face either fighter in the near future. That being said, nothing has been officially confirmed.
