Despite being involved in the biggest fight in combat sports history, UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is already planning his return to the UFC.
On Wednesday, all parties involved confirmed that Floyd “Money” Mayweather will come out of retirement to fight McGregor in a boxing match. The two will compete at 154 pounds. The fight will take place Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Shortly after the historic fight was announced, UFC President Dana White appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter and revealed McGregor plans to fight two times in 2017. McGregor’s first fight will be against Mayweather, but the UFC champion also plans to return to the UFC by the end of the year.
Ariel Helwani, of MMA Fighting, reported that the UFC wants McGregor to compete on Dec. 30 at the UFC’s last pay-per-view event of the year.
The earlier date is also a win for the UFC because their hope is McGregor will fight for them on the 12/30 PPV, so this gives him more time.
