UFC President Dana White believes the upcoming boxing fight between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor will break the all-time record for most pay-per-view sales.
While talking to TSN in Canada, White was asked if he believes the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight would sell over or under 4.99 million pay-per-views.
“I’ll take the over on that,” White responded.
The current record for the most pay-per-views sold is held by Mayweather’s fight against Manny Pacquiao back in 2015. The event sold around 4.6 million pay-per-views.
No other pay-per-view event in history, whether it be boxing, UFC, or WWE, have ever come close to the current record holder.
This week, all parties confirmed that Mayweather and McGregor had agreed to terms to fight each other in a 12-round boxing match at 154 pounds. The fight will take place Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
