Former Olympic boxer Tony Jefferies believes UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is an high-level boxer.
Jefferies has seen McGregor spar in person and believes the UFC champion can cause some problems for Floyd “Money” Mayweather in their upcoming boxing match.
Jefferies recently talked to Sky Sports about the recently leaked footage of McGregor sparring with professional boxer Chris van Heerden.
“I was there for the spar and have been there for many spars and they have been competitive, certainly not one way like everyone is making out,” Jeffries said.
“People see McGregor take a punch and they jump on him. Van Heerden is a world class boxer though, always in great shape and McGregor gave him problems in there.
“If I came in and saw him sparring and never knew who McGregor was, I would think he was a high-level professional boxer, not a mixed martial artist or a novice boxer. I thought this guy can fight and box.”
McGregor will make his professional boxing debut when he steps into the ring with Mayweather. The fight will take place Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
