UFC star Sage Northcutt will no longer be competing at UFC 214 later this month.
Northcutt was scheduled to return to the lightweight division to fight John Makdessi. However, both fighters have suffered injuries and the fight has been canceled.
The UFC announced the fight cancellation on Friday.
Northcutt was hoping to redeem himself after his submission loss in December to Mickey Gall.
Northcutt was returning to the division where he has had most of his success. He is unbeaten in the UFC as a lightweight. Both of Northcutt’s UFC losses came in the welterweight division.
The UFC will not book a new fight to replace this intriguing lightweight battle.
UFC 214 will take place Saturday, July 29 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
In the main event, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier will defend his title against former champion Jon Jones.
