One of the biggest upsets of the year took place at Sunday’s UFC Fight Night in Glasgow, Scotland.
In the main event, Santiago Ponzinibbio earned the biggest win of his UFC career when he knocked out Gunnar Nelson.
When the fight started, Nelson looked to be the more dangerous striker. However, Ponzinibbio managed to land a brutal shot that finished Nelson early in the first round.
Going into Sunday’s main event, Ponzinibbio was ranked No. 14 in the official UFC welterweight rankings, while Nelson was ranked No. 8.

Ponzinibbio is now on a five-fight win streak. With his win over Nelson, Ponzinibbio is now also one of the top contenders in the UFC welterweight division.
This was the third loss of Nelson’s MMA career. Going into Sunday’s main event, he was on a two-fight win streak with wins over Albert Tumenov and Alan Jouban.
