Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza never knew he would be on the wrong end of a verbal onslaught from UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.
Last week, McGregor and Floyd “Money” Mayweather held a world press tour to promote their upcoming fight.
The two elite fighters held four press conference in four consecutive days. Throughout the press tour, McGregor insulted Mayweather and everyone who works for him, including Espinoza since he represents Showtime Sports.
The Mayweather vs. McGregor pay-per-view event is being distributed by Showtime.
“I’ve been caught in the crossfire,” Espinoza told MMAjunkie. “I wouldn’t call it a beef because it’s been somewhat one-way. It’s a little bit surprising, but Conor, maybe it’s just part of his mental game. Maybe it’s part of the preparation, maybe it’s the way he psychs himself up. It’s a little unusual. I thought I’d seen just about everything in my time in the sport, but I’ve been pulled into the promotion. So be it.”
Mayweather vs. McGregor will take place Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
