On Saturday, the UFC hosted their 25th installment of UFC on FOX. The event emanated at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.
Undefeated featherweight prospect Shane Burgos was the highest betting favorite on the card when he fought Godofredo Pepey on the UFC Fight Pass prelims.
Pepey came out aggressive with wild strikes. Burgos was patient with his strikes. Pepey went for a takedown but got knocked down by a knee from Burgos. After landing another combination, Burgos knocked Pepey down again. Pepey then went for another takedown, but Burgos stayed on his feet. Burgos was the more successful striker but Pepey continued to throw wild offensive strikes. The round ended with Pepey holding Burgos against the cage.
Pepey came out with spinning attacks to start the middle round. Pepey briefly pulled guard but Burgos stood up. After striking for a little while, Pepey pulled guard again, but Burgos got right back up. Both fighters then began trading strikes. Towards the end of the round, both fighters started talking trash as they traded punches. In the final seconds, Pepey pulled guard and managed to keep the fight on the ground.
Both fighters came out swinging to start the final round. As the round went on, Pepey kept throwing devasting strikes but struggled to land clean. Burgos remained calm and managed to pick Pepey apart. Pepey went for a takedown but Burgos stayed on his feet. Burgos landed a devastating body shot that dropped Pepey in the final minute. Burgos allowed Pepey to his feet and continued to land brutal shots. Pepey pulled guard and ate nasty punches to finish the fight.
