On Saturday, the UFC returned to FOX with an intriguing night of fights in New York.
The event opened with a lightweight battle between Chris Wade and Frankie Perez on UFC Fight Pass.
Both fighters traded jumping kicks to start of the fight. Wade then went for a takedown. Perez fought the takedown for awhile before being taken down to the mat. Wade then took his opponent’s back. Perez fought to his feet, but Wade kept the clinch. Perez went for a takedown, but Wade stopped it. Against the cage, Perez managed to finally get the fight to the ground. Wade fought his way up and threw Perez to the ground to finish the round.
Both fighters traded leg kicks to start the second round. Wade appeared to get the better of the striking before he landed a takedown. Wade secured top position and began throwing down punches. Perez fought from the bottom but struggled to get to his feet. Perez got to his feet in the final minute but couldn’t break Wade’s grip. The round ended with Wade holding Perez against the cage.
Perez opened the final round with some clean punching combinations. Wade responded with a few kicks to the body, which Perez responded with some kicks of his own. Wade landed a strong right hand but was taken down by Perez. Wade then reversed the position and ended up on top. On the ground, Wade fought inside of Perez’s guard. Perez was active off of his back but he couldn’t get back to his feet. Eventually, Perez fought his way back up but Wade kept the two inside a clinch. The fight ended with Wade going for a takedown, but Perez stayed on his feet.
