Paulie Malignaggi has shared his thoughts on Floyd “Money” Mayweather saying he’d be willing to wear smaller gloves when he fights UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor in a boxing match.
On Tuesday, Mayweather sent out a message on his social media accounts saying he’d be willing to wear 8oz gloves, instead of 10oz, when he fights McGregor later this month.
Malignaggi has been sparing with McGregor and has shared his thoughts on the situation.
“The diff in impact with 8oz and 10oz is minimal. A key factor though becomes blocking punches, u open up the 10oz u cover more space 2 block,” Malignaggi said on Twitter.
The former boxing champion then talked about the possibility of Mayweather and McGregor changing their glove size just weeks before the fight.
“Nevada Commish rules state any fight above 147lbs must use 10oz gloves. It’s a rule, I don’t think they can make exceptions to such rules,” Malignaggi said.
Mayweather will fight McGregor in a 12-round boxing match that will be contested at 154 pounds. The fight will take place Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
