Floyd “Money” Mayweather wants the Nevada State Athletic Commission to allow him to wear smaller gloves in his upcoming fight with UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.
On Thursday, Mayweather held a media day at his gym in Las Vegas to promote his return to the sport of boxing.
While talking to the media, Mayweather revealed why he wanted to fight McGregor in eight-ounce gloves instead of 10-ounce gloves. The state of Nevada forces fights fought above 147 pounds to fight with 10-ounce gloves. Mayweather vs. McGregor will be contested at 154 pounds.
Mayweather says he doesn’t want McGregor to have any excuses after he loses their fight. McGregor is used to wearing much smaller gloves when he fights in the Octagon. UFC gloves are traditionally four-ounces.
“More blood, more entertainment,” Mayweather said to another reporter when he was asked again about why he wanted to fight in smaller gloves.
The Nevada commission will vote on whether or not they will allow Mayweather and McGregor to fight in smaller gloves at their meeting next week.
Mayweather vs. McGregor will take place Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
