Former UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold doesn’t want to have to fight fellow former champion Chris Weidman for a second time.
On Monday, Rockhold appeared on The MMA Hour and said, for Weidman’s safety, he hopes he doesn’t have to fight Weidman again.
“For his sake, I hope not,” Rockhold said when asked about a rematch with Weidman.
“Weidman looked better than I’ve seen him in a long time. He definitely got something back together, and we’ll see. He did fight Kelvin Gastelum, he did fight a 170-pounder, so we’ll see.”
Weidman ended a three-fight losing streak last month when he submitted Kelvin Gastelum in Long Island, New York. After his win, Weidman challenged UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping. Rockhold was confused by Weidman thinking he deserved a title shot.
“He’s a bit delusional at times. He just lost three in a row, so for him to think he’s the champion is pretty far from,” Rockhold said. “But he looked decent.”
Rockhold won the UFC title by defeating Weidman by TKO back in Dec. 2015. Rockhold lost the title in his first title defense after getting knocked out by Bisping.
On Sept. 16, Rockhold will fight David Branch in the main event of a UFC Fight Night in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
