Veteran boxing coach Angelo Reyes says the boxing world doesn’t like liars like UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.
During a recent interview with MMAjunkie, Reyes claims McGregor lied about the amount of damage he caused to former boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi during their sparring sessions. Reyes claims he saw Malignaggi shortly after their sparring session and Malignaggi seemed fine.
“When I saw Paulie, there was no indication it was a hard sparring session,” Reyes said. “In fact, it was the complete opposite.”
On Friday, during his media day in Las Vegas, McGregor said Malignaggi was concussed and was badly beaten up after their sparring session.
“Just don’t lie about it, Conor,” Reyes said. “Either say nothing, or say the truth. But don’t lie. You don’t have to go, ‘He was concussed.’ Dude, I was hanging out with him. If that’s what a fighter looks like (concussed)… In the boxing world, we don’t like liars.”
McGregor is currently preparing to fight Floyd “Money” Mayweather in his professional boxing debut. Mayweather vs. McGregor will take place Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
