On Saturday, one of the biggest fights in combat sports history took place in Las Vegas.
Before Floyd “Money” Mayweather fought UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor, multiple exciting boxing matches took place inside the T-Mobile Arena.
In the final undercard fight, Gervonta Davis fought Francisco Fonseca in a junior lightweight battle. Due to Davis missing weight, he was stripped of his IBF junior lightweight title. If Fonseca is victorious, he will win the championship.
Round 1
Fonseca was the first to land a shot to the body. Davis moved forward and threatened with his jab. Davis began to have success with both body shots and uppercuts. Fonseca landed body shots throughout the round.
Round 2
Fonseca was the aggressor and was lifted up by Davis before the referee separated the fighters. Fonseca would get held by Davis whenever he started picking up momentum. As the round went on, Fonseca continued to land shots. Eventually, Davis began landing hard combinations of his own. In the final minute, Davis landed multiple fight-ending shots, but Fonseca kept moving forward and landed the final blows of the round.
Round 3
Fonseca landed the first clean punches of the round. He continued to unload on Davis for the first minute. Davis eventually landed multiple uppercuts, but Fonseca kept moving forward. Davis became the aggressor as the round went on. The round ended, with Fonseca going for the body.
Round 4
Davis came out with his hands behind his back. He then landed a couple clean punches to the head. Fonseca went on to land multiple combinations to the jaw. Fonseca got the fight against the ropes and unloaded on Davis. The round ended with Fonseca landing a body punch.
Round 5
Fonseca threw multiple combinations to start the fifth round. Later on, Davis landed a plethora of head strikes. Both fighters traded shots to finish the round.
Round 6
Fonseca walked down Davis to start the middle round. Both fighters were more hesitant to throw shots compared to the earlier rounds. Later on, Davis opened up and landed punches to the body and head.
Round 7
Davis was caught off balance early, which allowed Fonseca to land numerous shots. Fonseca later unloaded on Davis against the ropes and corner. Whenever Fonseca gained momentum, Davis would hold onto his opponent. Both fighters landed hooks to end the round.
Round 8
Davis came out aggressive to start the round. Fonseca got knocked to the ground and was not able to get back to his feet. The punch that ended the fight appeared to be caused by a hit to the back of the head.
