Mixed martial arts competitors are sometimes subjected to kicks to the groin. While the devastatingly painful strike is almost always illegal, low blows still happen. Rather with unfortunate timing or poor technique, a strike can end up landing where it was otherwise not intended. When a low blow happens, fighters are often given a moment to collect themselves and decide if they would like to continue. If enough low blows occur, the inaccurate striker may have points deducted or be disqualified.
During a recent match inside the Pancrase promotion, one fighter suffered a brutal strike to the groin that left the man reeling on the floor. The referee quickly halted the bout and went to the fighter’s aid. However, the referee did not simply give the fighter some space, as is often seen in the circumstance. Instead, the referee began holding the fighter from behind and slamming him repeatedly onto the mat. The odd interaction can be seen in the video above.
