It would appear that the French Canadian phenom’s big octagon return was even more successful than initially realized.
George St. Pierre finally made his return to the world of mixed martial arts at UFC 217, after a nearly four year long hiatus from the sport. For his big octagon return, the former welterweight champion made a move up to the middleweight division to challenge reigning champion Michael Bisping for his title.
Choking out “The Count” inside the world famous Madison Square Garden, Georges St. Pierre locked in a title earning submission victory that put the champion among one of four UFC fighters to have ever earned a belt in multiple divisions. Now it would appear that the fighter just jumped over another one of those fighters in the official rankings.
UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor made history by becoming the first UFC competitor to ever simultaneously hold two titles. That in mind, the fighter has been absent from the octagon this year. Now McGregor is ranked No. 3 in the pound-for-pound position, while Georges St-Pierre has exploded to No. 2.
