Big John Explains Why GDR’s Controversially Late Punches On Holm Were Not Illegal … Not Even Close

This past Saturday night at UFC 208 Germaine de Randamie became the first ever UFC featherweight champion as she earned a five round decision victory over former champion Holly Holm. Her victory has been slightly tainted though because of some strikes thrown by de Randamie after the bell sounded, which Holm feels were very intentional.

On two separate instances de Randamie landed some pretty significant strikes to Holm after the buzzer had sounded to signify the end of the round. However, longtime MMA referee Big John McCarthy said that the punches weren’t illegal at all, and that he referee is the one that ends the round, not the bell.
