Anderson Silva’s Manager Says Despite Threat, Silva Will Not Retire

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva’s manager doesn’t believe the former champion will retire anytime soon.

During a recent episode of The MMA Hour, Silva said he would retire from the sport if he did not receive an interim title fight at UFC 212, in his native Brazil, on June 3.

“I think he’s far from done, but he doesn’t want to hear about Kelvin Gastelum or anybody else,” Silva’s co-manager, Jorge Guimaraes, told MMAjunkie.

Silva was originally scheduled to fight Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 212. However, Gastelum was taken out of the fight after testing positive for marijuana use.

“He (Silva) feels like every time those guys need him, he steps up to the plate, and it doesn’t happen the other way around,” Guimaraes said referring to Silva’s relationship with the UFC.

Despite Silva being upset with his treatment by the UFC, Guimaraes thinks Silva has a lot more fighting left in him.

“I think he’s far from retired,” Guimaraes said. “I watched him training, and it’s pretty impressive. He’s healthier than ever. He’s watching his diet. That’s one thing he didn’t do before. Now, he’s on top of it.”
