GSP Claims the UFC Knew a Summer Fight was Out of the Question

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre claims the UFC knew he wouldn’t be able to fight until the end of the year.

Earlier this year, the UFC announced St-Pierre would return to the promotion and fight UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping for his title.

On Wednesday, UFC President Dana White said St-Pierre would no longer receive the title shot due to him not being able to fight until November. Instead, Yoel Romero will be the next person to fight for the UFC 185-pound title.

“They say they can’t wait for me, but they knew before that I can’t fight in the summer,” St-Pierre told a local news affiliate in his native Canada.

St-Pierre also said that he is emotional over the fight being canceled.

“I wanted to fight Michael Bisping, and I know Michael Bisping wanted to fight me,” St-Pierre said.

St-Pierre finished his interview by saying when he returns to the UFC, he will be better than he ever was.

“I’m better than I was,” St-Pierre said. “I would not have come back if I would have been the same because the sport has improved.”
