Woodley Trained His Entire Camp With A Backpack On, To Ready For Demian Maia’s Grappling — Look!

UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley trained with a backpack on in order to prepare for his upcoming fight against Demian Maia.

At UFC 214, Woodley will defend his championship against Maia in the co-main event.

Maia is known for his grueling grappling style. The top contender likes to takes his opponent’s backs and hold on like a backpack in order to get a submission.

Following Maia’s last win in May, Woodley said he would begin training with a backpack on in preparation for Maia. The UFC champion even shared a video of himself training with it on.

“I have the highest takedown defense in the entire welterweight division. Second overall in the UFC,” Woodley said during the UFC 211 post-fight show back in May. “Maia will have to pack a lunch if he thinks he’s going to jump on my back like that and take me down like he did Jorge Masvidal and Carlos Condit.”

UFC 214 will take place July 29 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
