UFC 221: Teruto Ishihara Drops His Man Twice, Loses Controversial Decision To Jose Quinonez | UFC Results

In the night’s seconds UFC fight pass preliminary card bout Jose Quinonez opted to turn grappler against Team Alpha Male’s Teruto Ishihara.

Four takedown attempts, some of which he grabbed, Jose was able to dictate most of the action. In the final 15 seconds of round 1, Teruto was able to drop his opponent with a powerful mix of strikes, but he got saved by the bell.

In round 2, Jose abandoned his grappling strategy and was content to strike. Teruto secured an early takedown, but did nothing with it. Again, like in the first, Teruto landed heavy shots and dropped Jose, but he was saved by the bell once more, and sent wobbling back to his corner.

In round 3, the to fighters contested in a straight stand up contest, neither man edging out the other.

Based on damage, having dropped his man twice in rounds 1 and 2, Teruto should get the judges nod, as that was the only significant action in the bout.

The judges though, saw it another way, and controversially give the win to Jose Quinonez.

UFC Result: Jose Quinonez def. Teruto Ishihara via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
