On Saturday, UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell called out former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum.
Mr. @FabricioWerdum I don't think your getting the next title shot, and you may know I'm right. You and I fighting now makes the most sense
— Big Ben Rothwell (@RothwellFighter) January 28, 2017
Rothwell said since Werdum isn’t likely to get the next shot at UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic, he might as well fight him. Since Werdum isn’t fighting for the title, a fight against Rothwell would make the most sense.
Werdum is coming off a decision victory over Travis Browne in September at UFC 203. Werdum was scheduled to fight former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 207 in December. However, Valesquez was forced to withdraw the week of the fight due to a back injury. If Werdum would have beaten Velasquez, he would have most likely gotten the next fight for the UFC heavyweight title.
Rothwell is coming off a decision loss to former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos in April. Before the loss, Rothwell was on a four-fight win streak that included TKO victories over Brandon Vera and Matt Mitrione and submission wins over Alistair Overeem and Josh Barnett.
