ONE Lightweight Champion Eduard Folayang will defend his title for the first time on April 21 in Manila.
“Eduard Folayang just won his title back in November in Singapore, he’s gonna defend it in his home country, in Manila, for the first time, April 21st,” Chatri Sityodtong, ONE chairman and founder, told ABS/CBN Sports. “I want the entire country, if you’re a Filipino, if you’re Pinoy, if you have a Pinoy heart, you gotta watch this fight.
“You have a national hero on the global stage, representing the Philippines, representing the Philippines’ pride, representing everything beautiful about Pinoys, you gotta watch this fight.”
In his last fight, Folayang won the ONE lightweight title after pulling out one of the biggest upset wins in 2016. In November, Folayang defeated former champion Shinya Aoki by TKO.
Folayang’s win was such an upset due to Aoki being on a nine-fight win streak prior to their fight.
Folayang is currently on a three-fight win streak. He has 17 total MMA wins, with his last seven all taking place in the ONE promotion.
ONE has yet to announce who Folayang will defend his title against on April 21.
