On Saturday, Jorge Masvidal defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the co-main event of a UFC on FOX event in Denver, Colorado.
Masvidal defeated Cerrone by TKO in the second round of their fight.
With the fight taking place in Cerrone’s hometown, Masvidal was met with plenty of boos following the biggest win of his UFC career.
“Even if y’all boo me, it’s ok,” Masvidal said during his post-fight interview. “I know you’re going to boo me. I’m not from here but save your breath.”
Not only did Masvidal beat Cerrone in front of his home fans, but he snapped Cerrone’s unbeaten streak as a welterweight in the UFC. Cerrone had won four fights in 2016. He defeated Alex Oliveira, Patrick Cote, Rick Story, and Matt Brown all by submission, knockout, or TKO.
Following this win, Masvidal is now a top contender in the UFC 170-pound division. He is on a three-fight win streak with victories over Jake Ellenberger and Ross Pearson.
