Masvidal On Saturday’s Card — ‘Girls Shouldn’t Be Headlining Over Me And Cowboy’

UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal believes his fight against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone should be the main event of Saturday’s UFC on FOX event instead of the women’s bantamweight fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Julianna Pena.

“There are a lot of chicks that don’t deserve to be put where they (the UFC) put them at, headlining over dudes,” Masvidal said. “It’s not is it a chick or a guy, it’s who’s the best card. The main event shouldn’t be based on gender. The main event a lot of times, when I’m looking at these cards, I’m like, ‘how are these chicks headlining over these two dudes that are both studs and have been fighting, training since they were 7 or 8 years old, and these chicks just got into MMA a couple years ago.’ Those are the things that really upset me.”

Masvidal went on to say it is “crazy” Michelle Waterson and Paige VanZant headlined the last UFC on FOX event, in December, over Urijah Faber vs. Brad Pickett which took place earlier at the event.

Masvidal will fight Cerrone in the co-main event of “UFC on FOX: Shevchenko vs. Pena” on Jan. 28 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
