On Wednesday, Alves tweeted he plans to move back up to 170 pounds and fight in April.
In November, Alves made a short stint in the lightweight division, or at least he tried to. Alves failed to make weight for his lightweight fight against Jim Miller. He came in more than six pounds over the lightweight limit of 156 pounds.
Alves went on to lose the fight by unanimous decision. He is currently on a two-fight losing streak. His previous loss came in May 2015. On that night, he lost to former interim champion Carlos Condit by TKO.
Alves is a long-time UFC veteran. He has been competing in the promotion since 2005. He has 13 wins in the UFC. His UFC career is highlighted by wins over Chris Lytle, Jordan Mein, Josh Koscheck, and former UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes.
