On Saturday, the UFC returns to FOX with a pivotal women’s bantamweight fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Julianna Pena at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
Before a number one contender emerges in the women’s bantamweight division, the UFC provides a stacked undercard with many intriguing matchups.
The FOX Sports 1 prelims featured a light heavyweight fight between Luis Henrique da Silva and Jordan Johnson.
Johnson came out of the aggressor but Da Silva did not back down. Johnson eventually took Da Silva down and secured top position. He then attempted an anaconda choke but failed to submit his opponent. Da Silva then made his way back to his feet. Both fighters exchanged shots until Johnson landed a takedown in the last minute of the round.
Da Silva came out too aggressive in the second round and got taken down. Johnson moved into Da Silva’s half guard where he landed ground-and-pound from the top. Johnson once again went for an anaconda choke but failed. As Da Silva fought to get back up, Johnson forced him back on his back. Johnson smothered Da Silva for the majority of the round. Da Silva fought his way back to his feet at the end of the second round.
Johnson landed a hard right punch followed by a takedown early in the final round. Johnson went on to land elbows and attempt a kimura from side control. Da Silva fought and got the fight into his half guard. From inside Da Silva’s guard, Johnson continued to land ground-and-pound. Johnson ended the fight landing strikes from on top.
