Amanda Nunes spoiled the return of Ronda Rousey at UFC 207 by knocking her out in 47 seconds to retain her UFC women’s bantamweight title. Many were impressed by the performance. Well, except for one.
Valentina Shevchenko who defeated Julianna Pena by second-round submission in the main event of Saturday’s UFC on Fox 23 didn’t come away impressed with Nunes dispatched Rousey.
“Yeah, it was very fast and she did what she had to do, so she knew she had more advantage in the striking so she used it,” said Shevchenko during her appearance on Monday’s “The MMA Hour.” “It was a good fight. I’m not impressed. I was waiting, just observing my future opponent. I just tried to see errors or something like this. I cannot put in a lot of emotion of this fight.”
The victory seemed to net Shevchenko a rematch against Nunes. The former Muay Thai champion thinks this fight will play out differently than their first encounter at UFC 196 last March, which Nunes won by unanimous decision.
“I think it will be a completely different fight. It’s two extra rounds and all the experience that I have trained, it will be much better for me,” Shhevchenko stated. “I’m a better fighter than the last time. All this training and fights after I fought Amanda will help me. It will be a great fight. I am excited and I promise I will be in my best form to win it.”
No date has been announced for the probable showdown.
