Nick Diaz is one of the most polarizing fighters in the UFC. His no nonsense attitude has endured him to fans and made him one of the biggest stars in the sport.
The former Strikeforce welterweight champion hasn’t fought since his UFC 183 loss to Anderson Silva. After the fight, it was revealed that Diaz failed a post-fight drug test for marijuana. He was initially suspended for five years and fined $165,000.
Fans and media were outraged at the suspension, saying it was too much for smoking marijuana. It was later reduced to a 18-months and a fine of $100,000. His suspension was up on Aug. 1 but we still have seen the Stockton bad boy in the octagon.
There is a reason for that as Diaz has turned down fights against top-ranked fighters at 170 pounds.
“I offered Nick Diaz the Lawler fight and he turned it down–Lawler accepted the fight,” White said on the “UFC Unfiltered” podcast. “Yup, Lawler accepted the fight and Nick turned it down so I’m looking for something else for Lawler right now.
“I dunno [why he turned it down]. They were terrorizing me saying they want a fight and they wanted to announce it that night at the Sacramento card [UFC on Fox 22]. He was there, it was the right crowd because it was his hometown and he wanted to announce it. I got Robbie Lawler to accept the fight but then I called him and he turned it down. They’ve been radio silent on me ever since.
“I just reached out to them [again] and suggested a fight with Demian Maia,” White said. “I haven’t heard back from them yet. If Nick doesn’t take it then I’m going to give it to (Jorge) Masvidal.”
