The stagehands at Bellator MMA set up the cage at the SAP Center in San Jose, California on Saturday night for what was expected to be one of the biggest cards in the company’s history. However, Fedor Emelianenko’s bout with Matt Mitrione was scrapped just hours before fight night as Mitrione fell ill with kidney stones.
The mishap likely caused a major loss in viewership for the event and it looks like the fight may not happen even though Scott Coker said it would. Matt Mitrione was on a recent edition of the “MMA Hour” and if the fight is not rebooked within four months, he will be looking for another fight:
“I have not been re-booked, but if Fedor wants to wait until May or June, if that’s what his heart is, then that’s cool. I’m not going to wait that long.”
