Ed Soares, the longtime manager of former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, says a fight between Silva and former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre would make sense for both parties.
“GSP vs. Anderson is something I feel makes the most sense for everyone,” Soares told Bloody Elbow. “Two of the greatest of all time fighting is good for the fans, the UFC, and for both athletes. This would make everyone a lot of money and it’s a fight MMA fans all over the world would want to watch.”
A superfight between Silva and St-Pierre was in the works back in 2013 when both were dominant champions in their respective divisions. Silva holds the all-time UFC record for consecutive title defenses with 10. While St-Pierre has the second most consecutive title defenses with nine. A superfight between the two never came to fruition due to Silva losing his title to Chris Weidman, and St-Pierre leaving the UFC.
St-Pierre has not fought in the UFC since Nov. 2013. After winning a decision against Johny Hendricks, St-Pierre left the promotion as the welterweight champion.
Silva is coming off a decision win over Derek Brunson last Saturday at UFC 208 in Brooklyn, New York.
