Legendary kickboxer Badr Hari was sentenced two years in prison for assault and disturbing the peace in Amsterdam.
Hari was convicted of two counts of aggravated assault for an attack on Dutch businessman Koen Everink at a party in the Amsterdam Arena in 2012 and an incident in a nightclub owned by Jimmy Woo in the Netherlands’ capital, during which he made an attempted assault with a broken glass. He was sentenced to two years in prison
The 32-year-old wasn’t present for the verdict, which isn’t eligible for appeal. Hari attorney, Benedicte Ficq said his client will come to the Netherlands to serve the sentence though he’ll only have to serve around six months of the time.
Hari is coming off a highly publicized fight against GLORY heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven in December. After winning the first round, Verhoeven threw a knee to Hari’s arm and ruptured his forearm. The fight was stopped and Verhoeven was declared the winner.
A rematch seemed likely but with this latest setback for Hari, who knows if it will ever happen.
